No.148.The Seashells’ Memory

[Verse 1]
After returning from the beach, we left the station from the bullet train entrance, opposite the south entrance we had entered through in the morning. As we exited, her mother approached us from across the square wearing a light blue dress and a big smile on her face.

I told her and her mother, “My bus stop is at the south exit on the opposite side of the station, so I’ll be off now.” The city was bustling with activity, and many people were hurrying around. It felt as if everyone was being rushed by something. As dusk fell, the town became more vibrant under the night sky.

Then I said to him, “Would you like to come home with us in our car?” I added, “You have a lot of luggage, and it’s almost rush hour, so the bus will probably be crowded. ” He replied, “Well, I’ll take you up on that offer,” and followed us. And my mother asked him, “Can we go home first and then take you home?

I answered, “Yes, that’s fine.” The car was an 8-seater station wagon, and she and I sat in the middle seats.

He remarked, “That’s a big car.” I replied, “Yeah, it’s pretty spacious!” The car left the station parking lot and drove along the national highway by the sea. The city continued to buzz with activity, as if everyone was in a hurry. As dusk fell, the city glowed more radiantly under the night sky.

The car soon arrived at my house. My mother said, “You go inside and wait a little while.” She added, “There are cream puffs in the fridge, so you two can eat them with hot tea.” He commented, “It’s pretty modern,” in a faint voice. We seated ourselves at the table and enjoyed the cream puffs and hot tea.

He noticed two seashells next to my parents’ photo frame and remarked, “These are from the beach we visited today, and they have today’s date on them.”

I said, “Really?” and leaned in to look at the two shells. The shells indeed had the name of the beach we visited today inscribed on them, along with the future date, which was actually today’s date. For a brief moment, we felt as if we could see the blue sea and white sand on the other side of the shells and hear the sound of the waves. It is the seashells’ memory.
